The Sherman-Argentum Wedding; Dahlgren Chapel, Middletown, MD; Friday Afternoon [01/06].

Although there was a bit of a chill in the air, the wintry day was not that bad for a little wedding, and even the clouds in the sky seemed to clear in the sky for the event. Tucked away on a quiet hill, surrounded by trees, the historic Dahlgren Chapel exuded not only quaint tradition, but undeniable privacy for the bride and groom and their friends and collected family.

The small church itself was…tastefully!...decked out in most black and red, with splashes of the occasional white to keep it from being a little too Hot Topic goth-y, in a way that very intentionally meant to be a reflection of Liz's engagement ring.

And, so, with no Fandom Weirdness^™ to get in the way this time, the day was finally here for a small little wedding several months/ten years in the making.

At this point, Prompto still couldn't believe they'd actually done it. He still felt like he wasn't going to really be able to breathe entirely easily until he and Liz were hightailing it off to the Bahamas for a few days, but there was definitely something about having gotten to this point that was just...everything. They did it. They were married now, and even if something still happened here at their little reception, it wouldn't change that fact. It would suck, don't get him wrong, but it almost felt as if a curse that had been hanging over his shoulders for ten years now was finally lifted.

And it was much easier now to just sit back, marvel at the reality of it, and be grateful for all the people who had managed to come and celebrate this day with him and his wife!

Wife!

Ha! What were the fucking odds, man? This whole thing was just wild.

“My congratulations, Mr. Argentum,” Watts said as he approached Prompto’s side of the table.

The faintly crooked, slightly disbelieving grin on Prompto's face was pretty much going to be a constant for the remainder of the evening, but that didn't mean it wasn't going to find a little room to get even broader and more pleased whenever anyone was going to say even two words to him today.

"Thanks," he said, as the grin took another shift, this time towards rather proud and accomplished, shoulders straightening just that slight bit more with a lifted chin as he just sort of...reveled in that congratulations for a second. "And thanks for coming, man. It's good to see you; I'm glad you made it!"

"Of course," Watts nodded, reminded once again that he ought to make a concerted effort to get to know Prompto a bit better. "Everything came together quite nicely, didn't it?"

"A couple delays and missteps, sure," said Prompto, with a faint laugh, because, yeah, one of those delays had been quite a doozy, on his end, really, "but, yeah! We got there," and there was that slight twitch in his smile, a whole new blur of tears threatening the bottom of his vision, and honestly? The fact that he'd managed to hold it together as well as he had so far was kind of a miracle, "that's what counts. And Summer really did a bang up job of putting it all together."

Which he did feel kind of guilty about, but, really? He was far too busy flailing to have done anything even remotely effective when it came to planning this thing.

He’d fully expecting Liz to be the one to cry in his presence, given her track record around him, so he was somewhat taken aback when Prompto’s eyes filled with tears there. Still, he wasn’t entirely unprepared, awkwardly holding out a handkerchief that smelled vaguely of pretzel and salt.

"Mazel tov," Steven said when he had his chance to speak to Prompto. "Congratulations and all that. May you have many happy years together."

"And that they're all the same ones, too," said Prompto, a little unable to help himself with a bit of a laugh, but even that wry moment couldn't really put even a dent in his relieved good humor at the moment, and his grin only managed to get bigger as he gave a grateful nod. "But thanks, man. I appreciate that. And I really appreciate you being able to make it, too."

"Honored to be invited," Steven said. "It was a lovely ceremony. I hope it's all right me saying so but I think it's nice you two having it today. Lets you both be the stars, not the holiday. Well deserved honor, you ask me."

A little pink rushed up to Prompto's cheeks at that, his soft laugh definitely one belonging to someone absolutely not accustomed to being the center of attention so much. "Still a little bummed, though," he admitted, "that we couldn't have had it closer to Christmas, with how much Liz was looking forward to it. But...I think you're right, it's better it worked out this way. If anything, it gave us a little more time to breathe and enjoy it more."

It hadn't been nearly enough time for Prompto to breathe, really, but that would have happened regardless of if they'd had it a few weeks ago or a few months from now.

Liz smiled shyly up at her husband, husband …she loved that, “hi,” she said happily, “we did it, can you believe it? We got here,”

And what could Prompto do but grin happily right back at his ~wiii~ifeeee~ for a moment, before reaching over to grab her hand, and following that up by leaning in to give her kiss? Waiting for people to clink glasses be damned!

"Hi," he said back, and laughed a little, unable to help it, like he just couldn't keep all of it inside of him. "We did do it. We did get here. And I definitely can believe it, and this has pretty much been the best day ever."

Liz smiled brightly as she held onto Prompto’s hand and had no problem at all with leaning in and returning that kiss.

“Best day ever,” Liz agreed happily as she had no, “it’s all turned out so amazing, everything was perfect, wasn’t it? Rain looked like she was enjoying herself in the procession.”

"Rain look confused about being a part of the procession," Prompto amended, with a little bit of a pleased chuckle. And pretty proud. Having Rain be the ring-bearer was his idea, after all. Summer thought he was crazy, but he also felt it was not only adorable, but a perfect call back to their engagement. And now Rain got to enjoy a bunch of attention from all the party guests as she worked the space, or found a nice lap like Hellboy's to curl up in and nap in. "But I'm glad that worked out. That it all did."

Extremely glad. He'd been so nervous, he thought he would throw up a couple of times there.

But he hadn't, and there hadn't even been any need to, and he let out another sigh of relief that it had all gone so well and squeezed Liz's hand and leaned in toward her, his shoulder to hers.

"Look at us," he marveled, for definitely not the last time that evening. "Married. You're," he turned his head enough to quirk an eyebrow at her, "my wife now. How's that feel?"

"Prompto, you survived," Dwight said with a grin and a small wink. "Congratulations, to both of you!"

If Prompto's laugh seemed just a little bit on the nervous side at that, well...he couldn't really blame Dwight for not knowing just how much of an actual concern survival was for him around weddings.

But it was definitely nice to know that there wasn't going to be some kind of chocobro matrimony curse that they had to worry about.

"Yeah, man, I did!" he said. "And thank you. For that. And for coming, too, it's really cool that you made it."

"Wouldn't miss it," Dwight said with a nod. "Really was a great ceremony and all. You two definitely deserve it. Especially with the little one on the way."

"Yeah." Prompto's grin broadened with an almost sheepish blush at that, fighting the urge to rub his neck a little. "Been kind of a whirlwind, that's for sure. But I knew it would be kind of important to Liz, you know, if we were...married, before the baby was born. So I was definitely working with a bit of a time crunch."

Professor Broom came up to to the table smiling warmly at Prompto, “congratulations,” he held out his hand to shake.

"Professor Broom." With a new wave of odd nervousness sweeping over him, Prompto laughed a little as he awkwardly stood up, trying to casually wipe any sweat from his hand on his trousers before offering his own hand out to meet his for that shake. "Hi. Thank you. And I mean that, like, really, thank you, literally couldn't have done this without you."

If he hadn't set Liz up at the Photo Hut that fateful year, none of this would have even been happening.

“You’re very welcome my dear boy,” Professor Broom smiled as his hand reached Prompto’s to shake, “I wanted Liz to be comfortable here after everything, I’m pleased she did make the decision to move back, she’s so happy here,”

"Good," said Prompto, firmly, with a nod, although with a little bit of a guilty sort of smile, because he knew that there was definitely a good chunk of time, thanks to him, where she was probably pretty miserable, and all the perfect, happy weddings in the world wouldn't be able to even begin to make up for that. "She deserves that. And, honestly, if I can somehow manage to be even a fraction of that happiness, then I'm pretty happy, too."

Prompto awkwardly stood to meet tgat offered hand with his own, after an oh-so-subtle swipe of a doubtlessly sweaty palm against his thigh. "Thanks, Dr. Lecter," he said, and, all awkwardness aside, his smile was nothing but pleased and content with that. "And thanks for coming. It's really great to see you."
