Around midday on Monday, Liz would actually be receiving a phone call from Prompto, instead of just a test.

(She'd get one of those, too, later, because Prompto was pretty sure schmoopy evening check-in texts were going to be a thing until he didn't need to text her anymore because she was there with him, but for now? A call).

So...ring, ring! Or whatever other sound Liz's phone made with an incoming call.

"Hey."

Yeah, texting was nice and all, buuut...

"Oh, man," there was a contented sigh in Prompto's words, "it is so good to hear your voice again."

You know. All...one syllable of it so far! But that just went to show how nice it really was!

"We're almost there," Prompto assured her, with another sigh, this one part wistful, part...exasperated, honestly. "We'll swim there, if we have to, but this Dino guy seems pretty legit, so hopefully we won't have to. I mean, we've gotta get there soon, anyway, if they really want this wedding happening this weekend..."

With that, Prompto looked out over the ocean, thought about the big city waiting for them at the other side, and grinned faintly.

"Hey," he added, "guess what we're doing right now."

"No!" Prompto was very, very clearly happy to report that much. "Thank the gods. I've had enough camping for a lifetime, I'm pretty sure."

Prompto, it had been two nights, calm down.

"But no," he said again, grinning happily into the phone. "We're fishing. Well, Noct is fishing. Or at least trying to..."

"Maybe I'd be able to catch more fish," Noctis countered mildly, as he cast another line out into the water, "if someone's loud phone call wasn't scaring them all away."

To that, Prompto chuckled. "Uh huh, sure," he said. "Keep telling yourself that, buddy."

"We're trying to get dinner for a cat we found," Prompto reported proudly, feeling pretty confident that Liz would approve of such valiant motives. "I'll definitely send you pictures, but only of you promise not to tell Rain. I don't want her to get jealous.

"And yeah." Another sigh, this one happy and contented, almost as he looked around at the beauty of the place again. "The rest of Leide is so dry and dusty that this is a nice change of pace. Even if the monsters on this side of the mountains are huuuuuge! You should have seen this bird we found earlier, that thing was like half bird, half storm, half airship! And these crabs by the Haven, like, even Sidon would have been dwarfed by those guys!"

"It's nuts out here," Prompto shook his head a little. "People really aren't kidding when they say it's like a different world outside the city. Thankfully, though, we'vr been able to avoid any daemons. They won't go near the Havens."

But they were still close enough to hear, prowling around out there in the darkness, and honestly, if it weren't for the fact that they were all together, Prompto probably wouldn't have even been able to sleep through that first night at all because of it.

"Tomorrow," Prompto said, in a big, long, wistful sigh, and he turned around and started walking down the pier for a little more privacy. He could practically hear them giving him a hard time about it already. "We'll finally get there tomorrow, we'll get good and settled in, and then I'll get everything arranged with portalocity, and you'll be there, and it. Will. Be. Perfect."

It was too bad he couldn't just...portal her here through the phone or something. They could sit on the beach, watch the sunset over the ocean...

Aaaaand there was another wistful sigh. With probably many more to still come.

Prompto grinned, glad he'd slipped off toward the beach by himself so that the guy couldn't see the dopey look on his face; he ducked his head a little and kicked a little sand with his boot before looking out over the water. "It really hasn't even been that long," he realized. "It's just felt like ages though. Longest. Week. Ever."

And to think, this was going to wind up being the easy part of his week, too!

"I guess," Prompto said with a soft laugh and words that would probably come to haunt him in the next decade, "time can just be funny like that, huh?"
