The Apartment Above the Photo Hut - Sunday Morning

It was Prompto’s first father’s day and Liz wanted to make sure that it was a special occasion and so she had gotten up early to start making breakfast for him. Noctra was still asleep but it wouldn’t be long before she would wake up for her feed so she wanted to try and get as much of a head start on breakfast as she could. In the meantime she had also fed Rain so Rain was happily by her food bowl eating while Liz started cooking.

She had decided to go with making bacon and eggs and pancakes, so she was trying to be careful about not making too much noise since Prompto and Noctra were still asleep.

[for the husband! And up early for timezones and all the sp!]

And Sundays, thankfully, were for sleeping in already, the one day of the week where he didn't have to drag his ass up at stupid o'clock in the morning to jog around the island, and so sleeping in, Prompto was definitely doing. And while Liz was worried about making at that noise, she should have worried more about the smell of a delicious cooking breakfast waking him up, because it absolutely had.

There was about two point five seconds where Prompto rolled over and was disappointed, and then maybe a little worried, to discover Liz's side of the bed empty, but then the aromas that caught his attention and it clicked in his still sleepy brain what was going on.

He still linger, though, a bit, in the peace and quiet as he also listened to sounds of baby and cat, and knew that these moments were rare indeed and something to savor when he could.

Eventually, though, the promise of breakfast lured him out, shuffling his feet and stifling a yawn as he scratched his stomach, hair all a mess and a sleepy smile on his face as he went to greet the chef with a kiss to her shoulder.

"This," he declared, "smells awesome."

"Okay?" asked Prompto, with a laugh, and a nuzzle of his chin on Liz's shoulder now before the next appreciative kiss landed on her neck. "That's more than okay, that's amazing. Anything I can do to help? Do we need coffee? Toast? I think we've got a few oranges I could squeeze."

"My special da--" Prompto started, a note of confusion in his voice as he tried to unobtrusively but comfortably wrap his arms around Liz and tilted his head curiously. And then he remembered. "Oh, that's right, it's that Father's Day today, isn't it?"

And then, a dopey sort of grin as if he'd only just made the connection that that would include him now.

"And that's all for me, huh?"

"Awwwww," said Prompto, grinning back at Liz even more, with another quick peck on her cheek. "Thanks, babe. So....what makes a first Father's Day really special? Are there any traditions I should know about? Is it kinda just like Mother's Day but for meeee instead?"

It still sort of blew his mind that the titled even could apply to him, even faced with it every day, much less having a whole day for it.

There was....a pause, with Prompto lifting his eyebrows and his grin gone speculative.

"...anything I'd like?" he asked.

"Awww, come on!" Prompto immediately clicked his tongue and sighed with disappointment. "That rules out, like, half of what I was thinking! What's even the point of fatherhood if I can't even have one whole day of wanton mischief and mayhem and crimes?"

"Starting with..." Prompto said, trailing it off for dramatic effect before smacking his lips against Liz's cheeks, "stealing a kiss. Ha-ha! And then..."

He reached over to (carefully, quickly) pluck a piece of bacon up. "Stealing this."

He shook his hand a little because, well, that was hot, but then he popped the bacon into his mouth. "There's no stopping me now!"

"I better slow down a bit," Prompto said, stealing maybe one more piece of bacon before pulling away and turning toward Liz, leaning against the kitchen counter to grin over at her shamelessly. "Don't want to to come out the gate so hard I wear myself down even before noon. I have to make sure to spread out my father-related misdeeds, make sure to pace myself."

"To help fuel my one-man crime wave," Prompto said with a nod. "Smart! And after breakfast, maybe I should take Noctra out for a kidnapping walk, and then me and Rain can get together to plot out a cat burglary for later."

"That's a good question," Prompto admitted, rubbing his chin s little thoughtfully. "On the one hand, no incriminating evidence is a good idea, but on the other hand, if what you say is true, it's not incriminating if it's not criminal, because of the whole Father's Day thing. So what do you think? You know much more about how this thing works than I do."

Even if Father's Day was a thing where he was from, it would have been a very awkward affair for him overall, really, well before he even knew about the whole clone thing.

"...we do have a criminal lack of adorable pictures of Noctra and Rain," Prompto agreed, with a very grave and very serious nod.

The attempt to keep a straight face was a truly valiant effort, and Prompto couldn't help grinning fondly at Liz when those efforts utterly failed. And, in that moment, he just sort of let himself just sort of appreciate what was going on right now and sort of marvel at the surreal nature of it all. His wife, making him breakfast in their cozy little apartment and making jokes with him about Father's Day, which they were celebrating because he was a father, and how last year, if you'd have told him any of this was even possible, he'd have thought you were crazy...

Which meant that, as the moment caught up with him, he just sort of stepped back in to wrap his arms around Liz again in a hug, the plates in her hand be damned. Then a kiss on her forehead.

"Thanks for this."

Prompto had sort of meant this as just a quick hug, especially since there was food to be had, but since Liz managed to get the plates down, he was just going to linger in it a little longer, tightening the embrace and just sort of sighing a little into Liz's hair.

"I'm just so lucky to have you guys, you know?" he said, and then pulled back enough to give her a smile. "Sorry to get all serious about it, but it just kind of hit me, you know?"

"I mean," said Prompto, with another light, faint, appreciative grin, "I wouldn't really be in the position to be celebrating Father's Day without you guys, right? So it's kind of your guys' day, too. And, I guess, if anything, we kind of have the island and its weird time thing to thank, too, or else I probably wouldn't be able to be much of a father at all..."
